Resident is surprised that 3,700 voters saw nothing wrong with tactics of GOP candidate

How anyone could vote for Mel Schubert after the Jackson police investigation showed that Mr. Schubert did in fact pull up the false (Michael) Kafton arrest record on the Internet using his driver’s license number and his identification is beyond belief.

I guess that those 3,770 voters think it is OK to falsely accuse a married man with children, severely damaging his opponent’s reputation in order to win votes. Mel admitted giving out several copies of this misinformation to several people. This does not in any way exonerate his responsibility for the damage caused. His being a former police officer disgraces that profession and his political party as well.

As I went to cast my ballot in Meadowbrook with a friend around 10 a.m. on Election Day, a sport utility vehicle pulling an A-frame political sign about 8 feet long was parked blocking the walkway so one had to walk around it to go into the building to vote. It was the Mel Schubert-William Allmann sign seen around polling places on Election Day here in Jackson … a clear violation of voting laws.

It’s a shame that those running for office seem to feel they are above the law. It is wrong and needs to be addressed in Jackson once and for all. I urge Mayor Kafton to continue his lawsuit against this kind of smear campaign and dirty tricks; and I am ashamed that so many Jackson voters were a party to this kind of tactic by voting for Mel Schubert and Bill Allmann.

You sent a message that it’s OK to do what they did. It’s not OK, folks. It’s politics at its worst.

Thank God the majority of Jackson voters saw fit to return the Kafton-Giblin ticket; and also to reject the change of government VOTE petition. What happened to the 7,000-plus petition signees?

Republican Senate Co-President John O. Bennett III got from the voters what he deserved – now, let’s let the courts decide Mel Schubert’s fate. Let’s hope the Republican party gets the message that people won’t stand for their kind of dirty, sleazy politics.

All the political parties in Jackson should put more effort into the "get-out-the-vote" problem. One third of the voters decided this election — that means that every two out of three voters really can’t legitimately complain about how Jackson is governed. It’s your town folks. Low voter turnout does nothing to improve our way of life and can put a well-funded small political group like VOTE into power for their own agenda — not over 600 votes away from a nightmare … think about it! Every single vote counts.

Mike Kafton and Sean Giblin – keep up the good work. Jackson is a better place, because of it … and always remember, "of the people, for the people, and by the people" is why you were returned to office.
