Wegmans, Manalapan, raised $31,701 in support of this year’s Check-Out Hunger fund-raiser, which takes place from October through December statewide. The Manalapan store topped all collections in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and made a decided impact on the total funds raised benefiting The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the more than 200 charities served by the food bank.

Wegmans manager Tim Lockwood and head cashier Michelle Edington motivated employees to reach out to customers, who, in turn, supported the tear-off coupon campaign with their generous donations. The funds will be used to support the mission of the FoodBank to supply food to those in need in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Check-Out Hunger is in its 12th year and encompasses six states on the East Coast. Launched in 1991 by the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and New Jersey food retailers, the program was designed to raise consciousness about hunger and the role of food banking — cooperatively, without competition or advantage. In 1991, more than $200,000 was raised. Last year, Check-Out Hunger raised more than $862,000 in New Jersey. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties is a 501c(3) organization located at 3300 Route 66 in Neptune. To donate food or to volunteer at the food bank, call (732) 918-2600.
