John Kerry is the nominee of the Democratic Party, warts and all.

   Well, the slate is set. It will be John Kerry v. George W. Bush in the November election. Get ready for the mud to start flying.
   Everyone whose read my column or this Web log knows where I stand on this election, but my vote for Sen. Kerry will not be cast without some trepidation.
   While there is much to admire about him — as David Corn writes in the current issue of The Nation — there also is a lot not to like about him — as Derrick Z. Jackson points out in the Boston Globe today and Jeff Jacoby wrote on Sunday in the same paper.
