The American Heart Association has announced the winners of its 2004 American Heartsaver Awards recognizing and honoring "hometown heroes of the chain of survival."
Local recipients are the South Brunswick Police Department and Officers Dale Owens and Eric Tighelaar; the township of North Brunswick; East Brunswick Police Department and East Brunswick Rescue Squad, East Brunswick resident Samuel Rutkowski; Monroe Township; and Old Bridge Police Department and Sgt. Carl Policari and Officer George Anderson;
Also, Keyport resident Edward Novak; the Keyport Yacht Club; the Keyport Police Department and police Sgt. Anthony Gallo.
Winners were honored for taking "extraordinary steps" to strengthen the chain of survival within the community or organization.
