East Brunswick resident Sandra M. Denarski, the chief financial officer for Independence Technology, has been named to the Middlesex County College Board of Trustees. She was appointed by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Independence Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, develops products and services to help people with disabilities live their lives with greater freedom.

While Denarski joined the board at its May 2004 meeting, her relationship with the college goes back 30 years. When she graduated in 1973 from Douglass College as a liberal arts major, the nation was in the midst of a recession.

Jobs were scarce and she could not afford graduate school.

"So I took an accounting course at Middlesex and loved it," she said. "The course was so practical that I found I could use it right away. I took virtually every accounting course offered." A career was born.

The classes she took at Middlesex — her only training in accounting — helped her land a job with Johnson & Johnson, and she has worked there, in positions of increasing responsibility, for 29 years.

"I’ve always felt the College provides an opportunity to get a practical education and one that can lead to a bachelor’s degree," she said. "I’ve always wanted to do something for Middlesex County College. This is the perfect opportunity to give back."

Demand and growth in the Central New Jersey market prompted the need for a more modern office, he said, noting that the sales staff has also grown and exceeds 25 associates.

The real estate agency serves all of New Jersey and is a member of the Middlesex, Monmouth and Mercer MLS system. It is active in resale and new construction.
