South Brunswick Public Library will host a seminar by Kevin Simme, "Helping Parents Take Control of the Financial Aid Process" Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. Simme is president of College Funding Alternatives, Princeton Junction. Vendors are now being sought by Von Thun Farms for its festival slated for Oct. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Space rental fees range from $10-$75, and vendors must provide tables. The event features hayrides, a petting zoo, and other activities. The farm is at 519 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Legislation sponsored by Senator Barbara Buono (D-18) granting $583.4 million in aid to hospitals to fully fund charity care was signed into law Aug. 6. The bill, S-1214, would increase assistance during the 2005 fiscal year, with hospitals to receive a refund based on the amount of care provided. According to Buono, in the past hospitals received only a percentage of charity care, and the new program is now fully funded. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, will receive approximately $8.8 million, and St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, $2.7 million.

St. Peter’s University Hospital has announced the addition of two new attending physicians, Scott W. Puza, M.D., and Paul G. Matta, D.O., to its department of obstetrics and gynecology’s division of maternal-fetal medicine. Prior to joining St. Peter’s, Puza was a staff perinatologist at West Allis (Wis.) Memorial Hospital. He received a bachelor of arts degree in biology at the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated as valedictorian at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Medicine, New Brunswick. He served as an attending physician University of California Davis Medical Center, Sacramento; an associate physician at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Walnut Creek, Calif.; and attending physician at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Puza is a member of the American Diabetes Association, American Medical Association, and Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Matta was a clinical instructor/fellow at the Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Conn., prior to joining St. Peter’s. He received a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry at the University of Buffalo, N.Y., and doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York City. He has served as an attending physician at both Saint Raphael Medical Center, New Haven, and Norwalk (Conn.) Medical Center. He also completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Medical College’s Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, the Bronx, N.Y. Matta’s memberships include the American Medical Association, Connecticut Medical Association, and New York Perinatal Society.

Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce events coordinator Erin Clarke, and membership and marketing coordinator Tara Flynn Condon recently completed a professional development program with the Institute for Organization Management (IOM) at Villanova (Pa.) University. The women received training in leadership, chamber and association management competencies, as well as targeted curriculum in membership, technology, and financial management. Participants can also earn points toward the certified chamber ex­ec­utive or certified association executive designations, and institute graduates also receive the IOM recognition, signify­ing completion of more than 90 hours of non­profit study and dedication to the non­profit profession.
