Volunteer help needed for reading, repairs, gardening

The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County is seeking residents’ help for the following projects.

A receptionist is needed for a nonprofit agency on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. to greet the public, answer the phone, take messages and do some light clerical work.

An office assistant is needed at a nonprofit agency in Wanamassa with filing on one or two days a week. The minimum age for volunteers is 16.

A reading coach is needed to interact with elementary and middle school children in the Asbury Park Summer Book Club through Aug. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. in shifts of 2 1/2 hours.

Volunteers at least 14 years old are needed on Aug. 20 from 4:15-6:15 p.m. for a family fun day at a nonprofit day care center in Red Bank. Six to eight volunteers are needed.

A gardener is needed to plant and manage plants at a nonprofit house in Long Branch that helps families of children with life-threatening diseases.

A nonprofit agency needs help with running games of chance at Wal-Mart in Howell Aug. 25-29, 5-9 p.m. The minimum age is 18.

Help is needed to enable elderly adults remain in their homes. Clients need ramps, handrails installed, grab bars installed in bathrooms, screen doors repaired, windows repaired and yard pick-up. All supplies will be paid for by the agency; mileage will be reimbursed. An hour or two a month would be helpful.

Help is need to fill backpacks for underprivileged children on Aug. 25 from 1-4 p.m. in Long Branch. The minimum age is 14.
