SEA BRIGHT — The Sands Beach Club would expand its overflow parking lot on the Shrewsbury River side of Ocean Avenue under a proposal before the Planning/Zoning Board to divide one lot between two adjoining ones.

The end result would be the reduction of the present three lots to two.

The application was submitted by Michael O’Shea, John Chimento and Rozinante Inc., who are represented by the law firm of Leckstein & Leckstein in Little Silver. It pertains to property at 858 Ocean Ave. and adjoining lots.

The middle lot is owned by Michael O’Shea and John Chimento, and had a house on it at the time the application was filed which has since been razed.

The application explains that the intent is to eliminate that lot with approximately 50 percent of it being added to a lot with a residence owned by O’Shea and approximately 50 percent being added to a lot owned by Rozante Inc., to expand summer overflow parking there for the Sands Beach Club.

John Chimento and Gail Chimento each own 50 percent of Rozinante Inc.

The lot used for overflow parking also is the helistop that was used by the late John Mulheren, of Rumson, when he traveled by helicopter.

The lot continues to be used by helicopters occasionally, according to Michael Leckstein, the applicants’ attorney. He said the helistop also still is part of the borough’s emergency management plan.

The application is for a minor subdivision but because it calls for expansion of a non-conforming parking use in the P2 zone, a variance must be obtained.
