Optician arrested on sex charge

METUCHEN — Police arrested a longtime borough businessman and resident after he allegedly made inappropriate sexual overtures to a customer last week.

Harold “Buddy” Suter, 62, was charged with criminal sexual contact at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, police said.

Officer David Liantonio said a 22-year-old Metuchen female said she visited Suter’s Optique Unique (formerly Buddy Suter Eyewear) on Main Street for an eyeglass adjustment the afternoon of Oct. 30.

She said Suter offered to show her around the store and led her to the back room, where he allegedly asked for a kiss, Liantonio said.

When she refused, Suter allegedly told her she needed a back rub. Suter then allegedly asked to see her breasts and attempted to lift the woman’s shirt, Liantonio said.

Suter was released after paying the 10 percent option on his $5,000 bail.
