Thieves hit during work hours

EDISON — Police said two men tried to steal computers from a Northfield Avenue warehouse in broad daylight last week.

Two suspects entered the warehouse sometime after 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 inquiring about job openings, and were told by a supervisor that only driving jobs were open, police reports said.

A short time later, the supervisor returned to the area near the door where the men had come in, and observed a pallet containing boxes of computers had been cut open. Three boxes were laying on the floor next to the door.

When the suspects saw the supervisor, they fled in the direction of Fieldcrest Avenue in a red Jeep Cherokee with temporary plates, police reports said.

A fourth box was recovered in the parking lot, but it was believed the would-be thieves left empty-handed, police said.

The suspects were described as light-skinned Hispanic males. One was 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, and wearing a white, three-quarter-length jacket. The other was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 135 pounds, with a mustache, and wearing a Mets hat and jersey, according to police reports.
