Area teens hurt in diner fracas

METUCHEN — Two local teens sustained minor injuries when they were attacked by a group of teenagers in the parking lot of the Duchess Diner on Nov. 3

Officer David Liantonio said that around 11:30 p.m., police had to disperse a group of 20 to 30 youths from Edison and Metuchen who had gathered downtown for a rumored fight.

Five of the teens, two 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old from Edison, as well as a 16-year-old from Metuchen, went to the diner on Lake Street after the crowd was broken up.

All were males.

They told police a girl confronted them in the parking lot shortly after midnight and seven teenagers came out from behind the building, one of them with a baseball bat.

Liantonio said one of the teens was struck in the head with the bat and another in the knee.

Neither was seriously injured. They were treated at the scene by first aid personnel and released to their parents.
