Joan C. Hermansen

Mrs. Hermansen, 62, of Avenel, Woodbridge, died Nov. 16 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Woodbridge, she was a lifelong resident of Avenel and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Avenel. Prior to retiring in 2002, she was employed for eight years as an administrator for Dapper Bus Co., Iselin section of Woodbridge. Mrs. Hermansen was predeceased in 1999 by her mother, Marie Eaken Potts; in 1994 by her father, James Potts Sr.; and in 1971 by a brother, James Potts Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Kaczor, of Sussex; a son, Robert G. Hermansen Jr., of Oakhurst; a sister, Mary Marie Krug, of Lewistown, Mont.; and four grandchildren, Kayli, Josef and Annmarie Kaczor, and Robert Hermansen III. Funeral services were held at Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, Avenel, followed by interment at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.

Pasquale G. Brizzi

Mr. Brizzi, 77, of Toms River, died Dec. 5 at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Born in Calabria, Italy, he relocated to the United States in 1955, and resided in Jersey City, Piscataway, Ohio and East Brunswick prior to moving to Toms River two years ago. He owned and operated Church Lane General Store, East Brunswick, for more than 20 years, retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was a foreman at Laborer’s Union Local No. 156, New Brunswick. He served with the Italian Navy during World War II. He was active with Emergency Services of East Brunswick, and sponsored its annual fishing derby. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria Bumbaca Brizzi; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruno and Katherine Brizzi of Woodbridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Caterina and John Sardis of North Brunswick; his brothers and sisters in Italy; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Milltown. Entombment was at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, Milltown.

Ernest Margiotto

Mr. Margiotto, 89, of Port Reading, Woodbridge, died Nov. 18 at Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clark. Born in Woodbridge, he was a lifelong resident of Port Reading, where he was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. Prior to retiring in 1980, he was employed as a mechanic by the Reading Railroad for 45 years. He had worked as a presser at Ted’s Cleaners and Gary’s Cleaners, and was also the founder of “Pop’s Place” luncheonette in Woodbridge. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Margiotto belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Star Landing Post 2314 and the Catholic War Veterans, both of Carteret. He was predeceased by a son, Frank Margiotto, in the 1980s, as well as three sisters, Genevieve Vernillo, Sara Menchise and Mary DeSantis, and two brothers, Paul and Salvatore Margiotto. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Philomena Santoro Margiotto; two daughters, Margaret Terebetsky, of Avenel, and Angelina Hegedus, of Piscataway; two sons, Carmen Margiotto, of Port Reading, and Ernest Margiotto, of Woodbridge; a sister, Carmella Zullo, of Port Reading; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge, followed by a funeral liturgy at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Entombment took place at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 436 Port Reading Ave., Port Reading 07064.

Anthony O. Parascando

Mr. Parascando, 64, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Dec. 4 in The University Hospital, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Parascando; two daughters, Theresa Philhower and Denise Cummings, both of Temple, Ga.; a son, Tony Parascando of Gilbert, Pa.; two brothers, Peter Parascando of Las Vegas, Nev., and Nick Parascando of East Windsor; two sisters, Anna Marino of Las Vegas and Dolores Munoz of the Fords section of Woodbridge; and five grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
