Edward H. P. Gilman

   Edward Hubbard Platt Gilman, 91, of Newtown, Pa., formerly of Pennington and Montclair, died Jan. 17.
   Born in Hankow, China, Mr. Gilman attended Kuling American School in Kiangsi, China, and graduated from Montclair High School and Brown University.
   Mr. Gilman moved to Pennington in 1975 and was an active member of Pennington Presbyterian Church.
   He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a commanding officer of naval gun crews on Merchant Marine ships. After years working for the New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad, he joined the New Jersey Department of Transportation as a supervising analyst, a post he held until 1983.
   During his retirement, Mr. Gilman was the driving force behind the construction of a permanent facility for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), which served 60 people at the first meal in 1982 and now serves over 170,000 meals per year.
   Mr. Gilman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Priscilla Thomas Gilman; three children, Thomas of Moorestown, Edward (Ted) of Greenwich, Conn., and Joyce Gilman Liljeholm of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
   A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 29) in Penn Hall, Pennswood Village, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Newtown, Pa.
