Agriculture Dept. slates

symposium on livestock

Registrations are being accepted for the fifth annual “Livestock Youth and Volunteer Symposium,” sponsored by the state Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Junior Breeder Program, Rutgers Cooperative Extension and the Department of 4-H Youth Development.

The symposiums provide educational programs for each livestock species, geared toward 4-H youth, FFA students, and breed association youths in grades four to 13, volunteer leaders and FFA advisers. The events also offer a noncompetitive atmosphere where youths from different project areas, counties and schools have an opportunity to meet. Keynote speakers will cover topics that are pertinent to all aspects of animal agriculture.

The symposium will be held March 6 at New Egypt High School, Plumsted, with programs on sheep, dairy goats, meat goats, poultry and rabbits.

A second symposium will be held April 9 at the Gloucester County 4-H Center, Clayton, Gloucester County, with programs on dairy, beef and equine.

All programs will begin at 9 a.m.
