The American Heart Association, North Brunswick, has announced that Lawrence Cohen, president of International Technidyne Corp., Edison, has been chosen as chairman of the 2005 Middlesex County Heart Walk, which has the theme “Walk. Change Tomorrow. Today,” slated for Oct. 2 at Middlesex County College, Edison. Cohen will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment and organizational activities for the walk.

The South Brunswick Board of Education has announced the appointment of Raymond Ivey to the position of interim assistant principal at South Brunswick High School. Ivey retired as principal of Indian Fields School in December. He will serve as grade-12 assistant principal. Ivey serves as coordinator of Freedom School, a privately funded summer program for students that teaches problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. He has also served as vice principal at Franklin High School and as a reading teacher at Franklin Alternative High School.

The board also announced the appointment of Kristen Laskin as the high school’s new supervisor for business, technology and family and consumer science. She replaces Marianne Dougherty, who retired in June. Prior to her appointment, Laskin was a South Brunswick High School business education teacher, joining the district in 2000. She has a bachelor of science degree in business management and industrial relations, and a master of arts degree in instruction, supervision and curriculum.

HiTops Health Resources for Teens, Princeton, recently received a grant for $25,000 from the New Jersey AIDS Partnership in support of its first and third program. The project is designed to promote health decision-making associated with HIV/AIDS prevention. The nonprofit HiTops provides programs to enhance the quality of life for adolescents and teenagers.

St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, was recently awarded the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognition Certificate for its outpatient diabetes education services. The three-year certification recognizes that the hospital’s program meets “national standards for diabetes self-management education” for the fourth consecutive time. St. Peter’s received its first ADA certificate in 1996 in eight areas of diabetes education.

The certified public accounting firm of WithumSmith&Brown (WS&B) has announced the promotion of several staff members in its New Brunswick office. King Lee of East Brunswick was promoted from semi-senior to senior accountant. Promoted from staff II to semi-senior accountant was Richard Bobroski of South Brunswick. Nina LoConte of Tinton Falls was promoted from staff I to staff II accountant.
