John A. Buck Sr.

   John Alden Buck Sr., 77, of Monroe, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
   Born and raised in Edison, Mr. Buck was one of eight children of Bernard Standish Buck and Margaret Cornell Buck, and he lived in Monroe Township since 1990, coming from East Brunswick and Spotswood.
   He attended the former St. Paul’s School in Highland Park. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was the founder of Buck Bros. in 1950 with a single truck, which he later built into one of the largest highway construction companies in New Jersey. He had a sharp sense of humor and kept everyone around him laughing.
   He is survived by seven children, Christine "Tina" Klitsch Shannon, Maureen "Lesley" Buck-Stone, Michael J. Buck, Stephanie P. Buck Parkerson, John A. Buck Jr., Jacqueline A. Buck Donedao and Kevin G. Buck; his brothers, Bernard "Angie" Buck, Raymond Buck and Lenny Buck; his grandchildren, Melissa Embly Ryba, Benjamin Embly, William J. and Michael R. Stone, Wade and Gregory Shannon, Ricky Barsa, Darrell John, Autumn Maureen and Niki Parkerson and John, Julian, Pia and Dori Donadeo; his great-grandchildren, Jenna Marie and McKenna Leigh Ryba and Logan and Kila Shannon; his former first wife, Maureen Jacobsen; and his former second wife, Dorothy Kendall Buck.
   A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Thursday, Jan. 5, at St. Bartholomew’s R.C. Church, East Brunswick. Private cremation followed. Visitation was Wednesday at Highland Park Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 75 Woodbridge Ave., Highland Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Lung Association at 1600 Route 22 East, Union, N.J. 07083.
