Karl Gunsser

   Karl Gunsser, 79, of Fairfield Harbour, New Bern, N.C., died Jan. 5 at Craven Medical Center.
   Born in Buffalo, N.Y. and raised in Springfield Gardens, Long Island, N.Y., Mr. Gunsser had been a longtime resident of Titusville, where he owned and operated an antique restoration and custom furniture business for 35 years.
   He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served as a radioman and participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. After discharge, he pursued a career as an instrument technician for Reichold Chemicals and U.S. Steel.
   Mr. Gunsser is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Gunsser; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Margo Gunsser of Edison; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Robert Crouse of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, Kyle and Britt Gunsser and Katelyn Temple; and a step-granddaughter, Allyson Crouse.
   A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, N.C.
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1402 Rhem Ave., New Bern, N.C. 28560.
   Interment of Mr. Gunsser’s cremains will take place in Titusville at a later date.
