OLD BRIDGE – A truck overturned while traveling on Route 9 last Thursday, causing traffic problems for two hours on the state highway.

Old Bridge Police Lt. Robert Weiss said the truck, owned by First Colonial Funding Corp. and filled with discarded recyclable materials, overturned at 8:48 a.m. near the intersection of Route 9 southbound and Cindy Street.

The driver, Jorge Munoz, 22, of Hialeah, Fla., suffered minor injuries and was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Old Bridge division for treatment.

Munoz had lost control of the truck, causing it to tip and spill its cargo along the roadway, according to Weiss. The exact reason that he lost control was unclear and remained under investigation, Weiss said.

Due to the debris spillage, Route 9’s northbound and southbound lanes had to be closed. The cleanup operation lasted about two hours, and traffic patterns were returned to normal by about 11 a.m.

No summons was issued in connection with the accident, Weiss said.
