Candidates make bids for school board seats

Marlboro residents will have a full slate of Board of Education candidates to chose from when they go to the polls on April 17.

Residents who serve on school boards in New Jersey are not paid for their service to the community.

In Marlboro, eight residents are running for three three-year seats. The field includes incumbent board members Joseph Waldman, who has served for six years, and Isaac Levy, who has served for three years. Also seeking three-year terms are Edwin Madari, Huimin Shen, Vincent Valinoti, Vivek Sinha, James Pisaniello and Michael Lilonsky.

Board member Andrea Miller, who has served on the board for four years, is not seeking re-election.

In Freehold Township, three three-year terms will be on the ballot. The candidates are Mindy Wille, Stephen A. Buffett, Robert C. Hoppes and Daniel DiBlasio. Wille, Buffett and Hoppes are current board members.

In Freehold Borough, two incumbents and one newcomer will run for three three-year terms on the Board of Educa-tion in the April 17 election.

Incumbent Annette Jordan, who has served on the board since 2001, will seek re-election. Incumbent Audrey Evans, who was appointed to the board in June 2006 to fill an unexpired term, will seek a full term. Newcomer Dr. Eileen McGough is seeking her first term on the school board. McGough is a sitting member of the Freehold Borough Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Stella Mayes, who has served on the board since 1987, is not seeking re-election.

In Colts Neck, three residents are running uncontested for three three-year terms on the Board of Education. The candidates are Nancy LoCascio, Eric Greenberg and John D’Urso. LoCascio and D’Urso are incumbents. Donna Galinski, who is the current board president, is not seeking re-election.

There is a contested race for three available three-year terms on the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education.

Anthony Manisero, Joanne Orr, Martin Spindel and James Mumolie are seeking the three-year terms in the April 17 school election. Manisero and Orr are board members. Spindel and Mumolie are former board members.

Board member Lucille Benedetti is not seeking re-election.

Dr. Valerie Maglione is running uncontested to complete a one-year unexpired term. She was appointed to the board late last year to fill a vacant seat.

In Howell, three Board of Education members will run uncontested for new three-year terms in the April 17 election. According to information provided by the board secretary’s office, Mary Cerretani, Patricia Blood and Elizabeth O’Connell filed the paperwork that will allow them to seek new terms.

In the Freehold Regional High School District, there will be four seats up for grabs in the April 17 school election.

In Englishtown, board member Diana Cappiello is running unopposed for a three-year term. Under the board’s voting system, residents of Englishtown and Manalapan will vote for Cappiello.

In Farmingdale, board member Kathie Lavin is running unopposed for a three-year term. Under the board’s voting system, residents of Farmingdale and Howell will vote for Lavin.

In Howell, which has two representatives on the nine-member board, board member Ronald Lawson in running unopposed for a three-year term. Under the board’s voting system, residents of Howell and Farmingdale will vote for Lawson.

In Freehold Township, board member Michael Wright is running unopposed to complete a one-year unexpired term. Under the board’s voting system, residents of Freehold Township and Freehold Borough will vote for Wright.

Residents who go to the polls on April 17 to elect board members will also vote on the 2007-08 budget that has been proposed by their district’s school board. The budgets detail the line items that will be funded in the school district during the coming school year. The budget and the tax rate that goes with it help to determine the school taxes property owners pay to fund the operation of the school district.
