WEST WINDSOR — An 18-year-old West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South student sustained serious injuries in a car accident off Route 571 about 11 a.m. Monday.
Christopher Dittrich, 18, of West Windsor had been eastbound on Route 571 when he apparently lost control of his car, which passed through the westbound lanes and left the roadway.
It struck several trees before coming to a stop, police said.
”He was seriously, seriously injured,” said West Windsor Lt. Carl Walsh. “His condition did not appear very good at that time.”
Responding emergency personnel found Christopher unconscious and had to extricate the High School South senior from the wreckage of his Toyota Scion. He was treated for serious injuries at the scene of the accident and transported to Capital Health System’s Helene Fuld campus.
As of 6 p.m. Monday, a Capital Health Systems representative said Christopher was in the recovery room at the hospital.
”His condition is OK,” she said.
Law enforcement officials investigating the accident said Christopher lost control of the car in the area of the Windsor Greens golf facility, where his car weaved through the westbound lanes before leaving the roadway.
Most of the trees struck by the car hit the passenger’s side of the vehicle, which was not occupied, police said.
Both West Windsor medical personnel and Capital Health System’s medics performed emergency procedures at the scene of the accident before taking him to the hospital, police said.
Officers from both the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision team and the West Windsor Police Department’s Traffic Bureau are investigating the accident, Lt. Walsh said.
According to the “Pirate News and Views” high school newsletter, Christopher was a member of the National Honor Society last year.
