Erin Leigh Fassold, daughter of Susanne and Robert Fassold of East Brunswick, recently graduated from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tenn., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air National Guard. The six-week, in-residence course curriculum is designed to prepare the officer candidate for initial assignment as a commissioned officer and to serve as a foundation to build a career in the Air Force reserve components. The major subject areas of instruction included military studies, physical training, academic studies, professional development, communicative skills, leadership and management, international security and defense studies. Fassold, an Air Force logistics officer, is assigned to the 177th Fighter Wing, Atlantic City International Airport, Egg Harbor Township. A 1999 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, she received a bachelor’s degree in 2003 from Thomas Edison State College, Trenton.

Army Reserve Pvt. Ryan G. Marciniak, son of Tammy and Greg Marciniak of East Brunswick, recently graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills, battlefield operations and tactics and the use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
