‘Mama’s Night Out’ coming to MPAC

MILLSTONE — After the stress of the holidays, moms may need a night out.

The Millstone Township Performing Arts Center will host “Mama’s Night Out” at 8 p.m. on Jan. 22. Although Barbara Schulze, coordinator of the event, especially encourages mothers to attend with their friends, theatergoers don’t have to have kids to enjoy the comedy of Karen Morgan, Nancy Witter and Sherry Davey.

The three ladies in the show were chosen from over 1,000 entries to be finalists in Nick at Nite’s “Search for the Funniest Mom in America.” During the filming of the network television special, they bonded over being moms who enjoy having a night out.

Witter, of Floral Park, N.Y. is a threetimeManhattanAssociation of Cabarets and Clubs Award and Bud Light Ladies of Laughter winner who performs throughout Manhattan and around the country.

Davey, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has appeared on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and “Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn.” Named one of Hollywood Reporter’s “Magnificent Seven,” she is a national headliner performing at comedy clubs, casinos and college campuses nationwide.

Morgan, a trial attorney turned stay-athome mom and comedienne, is hailed as “Maine’s Funniest Mom” and can be heard every week on “The Coast Morning” radio show’s “The Mother Load.” She performs in comedy clubs, theaters and for corporate audiences nationwide. Her book, “You Might Be a Mama!” is in bookstores.

The trio delivers rollicking sketches “by mothers for everyone.” Each mama takes the stage to perform her own family-oriented, clean, stand-up routine. For the grand finale, the three ladies come together for an old-fashioned joke-off complete with snare drum and rim shots.

“This is a professional group touring nationwide making its way to the Millstone stage,” Schulze said. “This show got rave reviews at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.”

Tickets cost $35 for orchestra seats and $30 for all other seats, with a $5 discount for seniors.
