Committeemen sworn in to office

PLUMSTED — The Township Committee held its 2010 reorganization meeting on Jan. 5 at the municipal building on Evergreen Road.

Township Clerk Dorothy Hendrickson called the meeting to order, and the first official act of the new year was to conduct the swearing-in of re-elected Committeemen Mike McCue and Eric Sorchik.

McCue was joined on the dais by his wife, Maryanne, and their daughter, Megan, as he took the oath of office to begin serving a three-year term.

Sorchik was joined on the dais by his wife, Penny, and his son, Austin, as he took the oath of office to begin serving a threeyear term.

Following that was the nomination and election for the office of deputy mayor, who in the Township Committee form of government serves as mayor in the absence of the mayor. A nomination was made for Committeeman Dave Leutwyler to be deputy mayor all present voted in affirmative.

Leutwyler was joined on the dais by his wife, Linda, as Dancer administered the oath of office to the new deputy mayor.

In other business, the committee honored Mr. and Mrs. Michael Benhan, who have portrayed Santa and Mrs. Claus for the past 15 years for the children of Plumsted.

William Lewis was appointed to a seat on the Plumsted Environmental Commission.
