NORTH BRUNSWICK — The annual student-directed and student-acted production of “Theatre Revue” will be presented at North Brunswick Township High School on Friday and Saturday.

Under the leadership of Alchemist Theatre Company President Emily D’Alessandro and Secretary Sammi Penick, the revue will feature a compilation of comedic, musical and dramatic skits and numbers from theater, television and movies.

The 40 cast members will participate in “Somebody to Love” from “Glee,” “Freak Flag” from “Shrek the Musical,” “Let the Sun Shine In” from “Hair,” and “Pandemonium” from “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

There also will be a variety of group and solo performances.

“Take Me as I Am” from “Jekyll and Hyde” will be performed by Macky Womack and Jaclyn Angstreich, focusing on the character of Emma accepting Dr. Jekyll for who he really is.

“The Four Yorkshiremen” sketch from “Monty Python” will feature Womack, Anil Mathews, Akhil Hedge and Colin Daingerfield in a satirical version of elderly men trying to get one up on each other.

“It’s really cool, especially for ‘The Four Yorkshiremen,’ because we all worked together and we’re all directors together,” Womack said. “We all have different talents that combine to make it a really fun, great skit.”

Mathews will perform a solo, “Close Every Door” from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which is Joseph’s plea as he faces prison.

Penick, Daingerfield and Mathews will sing a medley “You Don’t Know / I Am the One” from “Next to Normal” about a mother whose son died a few hours after birth but who lives on in her mind. The father and the deceased infant both sing that they are the ones who are supporting the mother.

Reese Keilty, Stephanie Novak, Vinroy Brown, Sean Magnacca, Adam Magnacca, Hedge and Mathews will join together on “Confrontation” about Dr. Jekyll’s fight with Mr. Hyde.

Katelyn Pietrocola, Jackie Pecora, Stephanie Hocson, Jason Haberman, Mathews, Penick and Angstreich will be featured in “Flight Attendants” about a group of stewardesses who don’t realize how serious their plane’s turbulence is.

Womack and 14 other friends will sing the title song from “Hair,” basically a song about hair.

“It gives us a chance to be with friends and do something with them before we graduate,” Womack said.

Mathews called “Theatre Revue” a “highlight reel” of Broadway shows.

“With a play or musical we get handed a role … but with this, we get to pick songs or skits that are specific to us,” Mathews said. “It gives everybody an equal opportunity because there are only so many roles one play or musical can have, but here you can have your own skit.”

The Alchemists will perform the show at 8 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. All tickets will be $5 for a special 2 p.m. matinee Saturday. Tickets are available for all shows starting 45 minutes before showtime.
