Chamber welcomes new officers

JACKSON — During its first business meeting of the year, the Jackson Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new officers for 2010. The meeting was held at Laurita Winery in Plumsted. Incoming President Daniel Black of Blackie’s Welding Service thanked outgoing President Clara Glory for her hard work during her tenure as president.

Black is a former Jackson Township Committeeman and mayor who was born and raised in Jackson. He said he was looking forward to the continued success of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, which now boasts more than 220 members.

Glory will be serving as first vice president and pledged her continuing support for the chamber. Also elected were George Fisher of The Bank, second vice president; and Stephen Reed of Cowen and Gunteski, treasurer.

Other board members serving a threeyear term are Jeffrey Roth of the Roth and Roth Law Firm, Lucia Bartolini of Hans Maxim, Dennis Galvin of the Galvin Law Firm, and Cheryl Lewis of Investors Savings Bank.

The meeting featured several guest speakers.

Dennis O’Keefe, president of the Jackson Economic Development Council, introduced the concept of the newly formed EDC to the audience and explained that its mission is to help foster opportunities for economic growth within the township.

Mayor Michael Reina welcomed the chamber members and pledged the support of the township to all of the businesses. He said he will work with the EDC to help develop the township’s commercial community, which will be a benefit to residents and taxpayers.

Closing the meeting were Jackson’s 30th Legislative District representatives, Sen. Robert Singer, Assemblyman Joseph Malone and Assemblyman Ron Dancer, who all assured the business members that under the leadership of Gov. Chris Christie there will be significant changes supporting all of the businesses, large and small.
