Special event will assist local veteran

JACKSON — The Jackson Women of Today will hold a pancake breakfast and an Easter egg hunt to support Operation One of Our Own.

The breakfast, which will cost $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12, will be held at the Central Jersey Italian American Club, 36 Cpl. Luigi Marciante Jr. Memorial Drive, on March 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Profits from the breakfast will be donated to Operation One of Our Own, a fourmonth fundraising effort encompassing the Jackson nonprofit groups of the 501 Association.

“The funds collected through Operation One of Our Own will help provide training for a service dog for a Jackson soldier who recently returned from service in Iraq,” said Jackson Women of Today President Suzanne Rogalsky. “Unfortunately, it is quite costly to purchase and train a service dog, and there is currently a seven- to 10- year wait from the Veterans Administration to get one.”

Rogalsky said to better aid the community, the 501 Association was formed to coordinate and collaborate on fundraising efforts for various causes by combining the strengths and talents of each group.

The organization consists of representatives from the Jackson Kiwanis, VFW, Optimists, Rotary, Jackson Women of Today, Fossils Car Club, the Italian American Club, St. Vladimir’s Church and the Jackson Alumni Hall of Fame.

Efforts from the various nonprofit groups toward this cause are ongoing and will be announced to the public, she said.
