MILLSTONE — Matt Gold competed in the Junior Olympics and bested all his previous swim times.

During the New Jersey Junior Olympics for swimming March 19-21 at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University, the 10-year-old beat his personal best times, taking four seconds off his 200-yard freestyle, six seconds off his 500-yard freestyle, one second off his 50-yard butterfly, six seconds off his 100-yard butterfly and two seconds off his 200-yard individual medley.

The Millstone resident competed as part of the Scarlet Aquatic Club that swims at Rutgers. He swam the short course (25-yard pool) in the Junior Olympics, which are held for swimmers who achieved gold times

in previous events.

His season best times were 1:09.43 in the 100-yard freestyle, 2:30.32 in the 200- yard freestyle, 6:43.15 in the 500-yard freestyle, 35.83 in the 50-yard butterfly, 1:20.93 in the 100-yard butterfly, and 2:55.09 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Now that the short course season has ended, Gold’s long

course (50-meter pool) season will begin in May.
