When, at approximately 6 p.m. on April 20, I completed my phone conversation with a very good friend and previous Board of Education member, the real impact of what had transpired these last few weeks became clear to me.
Whatever the results of the Plumsted Board of Education election later (that evening), I had won and I am a much more humble person for everything that has occurred recently.
The outpouring of good wishes and support was far beyond what I had expected. I am truly not worthy of such comments and good friends. To take the time here to thank each one of you would be impossible.
Just know that your vote of confidencewill not be wasted. I believe the votes I received were not just for me, but for all those community members, Board of Education members and most importantly students that allowed me to be part of the history of the New Egypt School District. To each and every one of you I will be forever indebted.
For those of you who did not vote for me and voted for one of the other fine candidates, I hope that you will allow me the chance to earn your respect.
I want to thank the other three candidates who respected your fellow candidates. You are to be commended for your actions.
For Mr. Downs, who I served with on the Board of Education for one year, I wish you the very best in your future and thank you for the respect you showed me as a fellow board member and during these elections.
For Mr. Milligan, someone I have only known briefly but whose graciousness and honesty during these past weeks will stay with me forever, I do hope that you will continue to pursue public office.
Mr. Midgett, I look forward to working with you.
Finally, I need to thank the one person who has been the light of my life for over 40 years, my wife, Janet. The person who, when I was previously on the board, spent family visits, vacations, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and much more holding up my part of the family while I was attending board meetings. I have been blessed by you as my wife and I am thankful each day for that. I thank you for allowing and encouraging me once again to try to serve this wonderful community of New Egypt.
There is much work to be done and I am ready, once again, to serve our community along with the other fine Board of Education members.
