South Brunswick 10U Black captures Central Jersey title

The South Brunswick 10U Black Vikings travel team won the Spring 2011 Central Jersey Baseball League championship.

The Vikings played some hard-fought regular-season games, beating Montgomery, Milltown, South Plainfield, Woodbridge and North Brunswick and finishing the regular season 6-4, clinching a playoff spot.

The Vikings continued to play hard going into the playoffs, beating an 8-2 Middlesex Mustang team, 12-5. The championships for the Central Jersey Baseball League was held on Father’s Day at Rowland Park, where they played an undefeated 10-0 Marlboro Mustang team. The Vikings jumped on an early lead and continued to score a run each inning and held on, beating the Mustangs, 7-2.

“This was a great example of a team effort, as all 11 kids contributed equally,” said Vikings manager Andrew Goldsmith. “This entire season, the boys never gave up no matter what obstacles where put in their way.”

The Vikings having begun district play and are 2-1, and in the Cranford Tournament their record stands at 2-0.

Later this summer, the Vikings will be traveling to Maryland to compete in the Cal Ripken High Heat Tournament against other teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

The Vikings are: Sean Goldsmith, William Beck, Marcus James, Ryan Wislock, Matthew Kirchheimer, Matthew Lauri, Jacob McIntyre, Dan O’Brien, Jacob Ciccone, Michael Nally and Mason Jenne.

Dave Ciccone, Andy Beck and Scott McIntryre are Goldsmith’s assistant coaches.
