MANVILLE: Police botter for week of Aug. 4

   An employee of the Manville Department of Public Works reported shortly after 9 a.m. July 25 the theft of three manhole covers near the Van Veghten bridge. The value was estimated at $900.

   Patrolman Stephen Illes said he was flagged down by employees of C & C Construction of Basking Ridge at 2:11 p.m. July 25 and told about a theft of a 24-foot scaffold valued at $500 between 5 p.m. July 21 and 7 a.m. that morning.

   A mother called at 7:21 p.m. July 25 to say her son was offered drugs (no specific type was mentioned) by two women in their 20s while he was at Quick Chek at the corner of Brooks Boulevard and North Main at about 6 p.m. Officer Peter Demchak responded but didn’t see either woman, one a blonde in gray shorts and the other black-haired with red highlights.

   A tree at the corner of Duke’s Parkway and No. 7th Avenue was hit by a driver in a white SUV, a caller reported at 7:29 p.m. July 25. Driver Dayna Stolze of Huntington, New York, was uninjured, according to reports. Kwik Response was contacted at owner request.

   A Manville man came to headquarters at 8:30 p.m. July 25 to report a suspicious incident in which he was questioned about the business routine at Adesa Auto Auction. The man said a scrawny white man, about 5-10 with short black hair, approached about a half-hour earlier in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts.
   The man recited private information to the man, including the fact that he worked at Adesa. He allegedly offered the man $500 to update him on security issues and car deliveries, and “good times” to take cars from the property.
   The subject was last seen walking towards Camplain Road and possibly Lost Valley. The Adesa employee was advised to contact Adesa Security as well as the police if approached again.

   At 11 p.m. July 25, county communications reported a squad call for a 53-year-old woman who overdosed on pills. Patrols, squad and MICU responded and took the woman, who is a Bronx resident, to Somerset Medical Center.

   Patrol reports that a car crashed into a telephone pole at South Main Street and West Camplain Road, with no injuries at 7:43 a.m. July 26.

   At 8 a.m. July 26 Dave Nowak of South 5th Avenue reported four vehicles had been “keyed.”

   Three speakers, valued at $200, on the Sacred Heart Church property were reported damaged overnight. Call was recorded at 9:23 a.m. July 26.

   A North 10th Avenue woman came to headquarters at 4:23 p.m. to say her dog had been bitten by another dog owned by a woman on North 9th Avenue. Police recorded the incident.

   A North 9th Avenue woman reported at headquarters at 5 p.m. July 26 that her car had been “egged” during overnight hours of Sunday, July 24. It was put on record.

   The rear passenger side window on a 2006 Saturn was shattered by an unknown object, a Fucillo Street woman reported at 7:17 p.m. July 26. The incident happened as she was passing by a South 13th Avenue house where she had seen a boy holding a baseball bat on the front porch of a duplex, she said. Patrols checked, but found no one. Damage was estimated at $250.

   Marc Pullen reported at 9:35 p.m. July 26 that his wife’s 2010 Hyundai Elantra had been “keyed” overnight while parked on the street in front of the house on South 5th Avenue. Police found a long scratch on driver’s side from side view mirror to fuel door and over the trunk. Estimated damage was $250.

   At 11:39 p.m. July 26 a caller said a red two-door Ford hatchback hit a fence on Washington Avenue/South 3rd Avenue and fled the area, traveling down South 3rd Avenue. Patrols found an estimated $250 in damage to shrubbery and fence at 301 Washington Ave. with one tire mark leading up to it. The property owner was notified.

   A West Camplain Road woman reported at 5:20 p.m. July 27 that, while she was away, someone turned on her outside water spigot and ran the hose into the garage between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, when a neighbor noticed it. The incident didn’t cause any permanent damage, and she didn’t need police to respond, but she wanted the incident recorded.

   A woman on Driscoll Street said at 6:33 p.m. July 27 that a man came onto her property and began taking pictures of her residence. He identified himself as a bank manager, she said. But could not provide identification. The incident was recorded.
   Another call at 8:50 p.m. said a white male in a green vehicle was taking pictures of a residence on North 3rd Avenue and left the area. The vehicle was gone by the time police arrived.

   Alfred Nowak of North Weiss Street reported at 1:49 p.m. July 28 the theft of a generator and power scooter taken sometime after 5 p.m. the previous day. Estimated total value was put at $1,600. Patrolman Craig Jeremiah is investigating.

   At 4 p.m. July 28 Sgt. Michael Kane of State Police reported locating that day a stolen $75,000 Mercedes-Benz from a case dating back to August 2010. The victim was the Adesa auto auction property.

   A Dominic Street woman came to headquarters at 5:18 p.m. July 28 that someone used her debit card and PIN number in Germany and spent $265.79 from her account. Affinity Bank was notified and the card was canceled. Patrolman Nickolas Franzoso is investigating.

   A South 7th Avenue man called at 5:41 p.m. July 28 to report that over the course of the last month an unidentified dog had defecated on his lawn. He wanted the matter recorded. The incident referred to Board of Health.

   A man walked into police headquarters at 2:34 a.m. July 29 to say someone threw a bottle at him while he was walking on South Main Street. He didn’t know who or where they went. Patrols found no one.

   A man came to police headquarters at 4 p.m. July 31 with a dog he found on Duke’s Parkway at Route 26. Patrol located the owner, who came to pick up the dog.

   Patrolman William Sampson reported at 2:28 am Aug. 1 that the overhang on the drive-thru for the Bank of America on South Main Street was damaged.

   At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 Patrolman William Sampson reported a major gas leak on South 10th Avenue between Washington Avenue and West Camplain Road. Patrol fire and 801, public service all responded. Homes were evacuated.
