‘In Excelsis Deo’ concert at Our Lady of Peace

Philomusica, an auditioned choir under the direction of Dennis Boyle since 1982, will present a Christmas concert, “In Excelsis Deo,” at Our Lady of Peace Church, 1740 Route 130 north at Washington Place, North Brunswick, on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m.

The concert describes the Nativity through Medieval, Renaissance and 20thcentury music, including Tomás Luis de Victoria’s “Magnificat Septimi Toni,” and the premiere of Jonathan Dove’s “Missa Brevis” with organ, accompanied by Shea Velloso, director of music at United Methodist Church, Milltown.

The second half of the concert describes the Nativity through selections connected by their texts, and includes works by Jacob Handl, Michael Praetorius, Francis Poulenc, Benjamin Britten and Shaw/Parker, as well as Gregorian chants and a selection from “Piae Cantiones.” The concert ends with a medley of sing-along carols.
