JACKSON — A driver was ticketed for failure to observe a traffic signal following her involvement in a motor vehicle accident at 3 p.m. July 17. Four people sustained what police described as minor injuries.

According to information provided by police, Judith Gruenfeld, 66, of Jackson, was stopped at the intersection of Jackson Mills and Farmingdale roads.

The police report states that Gruenfeld claimed she saw the red traffic signal blink several times.

The report states that Gruenfeld was confused with the traffic light’s operation and proceeded into the intersection after allegedly being waved through by another motorist. Police said a landscaping truck traveling north on Jackson Mills Road struck Gruenfeld’s Subaru Forester.

The police report states that officers who arrived at the scene of the accident said the traffic light was operating normally, although witnesses corroborated Gruenfeld’s claim of some type of problem with the signal.

Gruenfeld received a ticket for failure to observe a traffic signal.

“Either a blinking light that is not normally blinking or a traffic light that is completely out should always be treated as a stop,” Traffic Safety Supervisor Sgt. Brian Geoghegan said. “Motorists should always use caution when entering an intersection.”

The report of a possible problem with the traffic light was forwarded to Ocean County because Jackson Mills Road is a county road, according to police.
