PERRYVILLE: DRJTBC to be honored at HART awards breakfast

The event is an opportunity for HART to recognize individuals, employers, organizations and local municipalities that have exemplified a commitment to sustainable transportation

   HART Commuter Information Services, the nonprofit transportation management association serving Hunterdon County, will host its annual meeting and Awards Breakfast on July 25 from 8-10 a.m. at the Grand Colonial, Route 173, Perryville.
   ”The event is an opportunity for HART to recognize individuals, employers, organizations and local municipalities that have exemplified a commitment to sustainable transportation,” said Tara Shepherd, executive director.
   Among those to be recognized is the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission for its commitment to pedestrian access on the bridges under its jurisdiction. Of the 20 bridges under commission jurisdiction, 15 bridges offer pedestrian access, including two that are “pedestrian only.”
   The commission recently invested $3 million for rehabilitation of the Lumberville Raven Rock Pedestrian Bridge that connects Lumberville, Pennsylvania, to the Bulls Island Recreation Area in Delaware Township.
   Also to be honored is Chief Al Kurylka, Frenchtown Police Department. He will receive the Linda P. Yenzer Memorial Award, named for a former HART Board member who passed away in 2004. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a passion and commitment to transportation and safety, and/or through their longevity of service, shown determination and innovation in their service to the community.
   More than thirty Hunterdon employers will be presented with awards designating them as “New Jersey Smart Workplaces”, a statewide recognition that lauds employers who provide commuter benefits to their employees.
   Pam Fischer, a transportation safety consultant and former Director of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, will serve as the keynote speaker and will address New Jersey’s higher than national average pedestrian crash rate, the importance of walkable communities, pedestrian safety, and opportunities to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities in New Jersey.
