Ex-crossing guard gets 18 years in prison for child pornography

EDISON — A township resident and former Metuchen crossing guard has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.

Kenneth Christensen, 45, was arrested in February 2013 and later pleaded guilty to charges of production of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said Christensen took compromising photographs of a naked child and distributed them and hundreds of other photographs of child sexual abuse over the Internet.

Christensen admitted that he sent four individuals emails containing several hundred images of child porn, including sadistic and masochistic conduct. He acknowledged having distributed more than 600 such photos, according to Fishman’s office.

In addition, Christensen admitted that some of the images were photos he had taken — including in his own bedroom — of a naked, prepubescent child who was bound in some of the images.

Christensen was employed as a crossing guard for students at a Metuchen middle school until his arrest last year.

U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan imposed the sentence April 22 in Trenton federal court. In addition to the prison term, Sheridan sentenced Christensen to lifetime supervised release, and required him to register as a sex offender.
