SEA BRIGHT — The 11th annual SkimBash skim boarding competition is expected to draw boarders of all skill levels to Sea Bright this weekend.

The SkimBash, which is hosted by Jersey Shore Skim Camp, will take place Sept. 6-7 at the beach behind Borough Hall, 1167 Ocean Ave. The competition will begin on both days at 8 a.m. and end around 5 p.m., according to a press release.

The Saturday event will feature preliminary heats for the boarders, while the Sunday event will include the semifinals and finals.

“Skim boarding is a growing sport. Our contest grows every year,” said Felecia Stratton, founder of Jersey Shore Skim Camp. “It is open to every ability level, as you do not have to be a professional to join.”

Skim boarders who wish to participate may sign up online. Registration must be done by noon on Sept. 5. Stratton said there is no age limit on the competition.

The entry fee for the amateur level of the competition is $30; semi-professionals, $50; and professionals, $100.

For the amateurs, the top three winners will receive goodies donated by skim board companies. The professionals will be competing for a $2,000 cash purse, which is donated by Yo Mon Yogurt. The entry fees of the semiprofessional competitors will be pooled and divided among the top three.

Stratton said the area of the beach the skim boarders are competing in is roped off, but the area outside is available for spectators. Spectators will not be charged to attend the event and, because the event takes place after Labor Day, beach admission will not be charged.

Stratton said the competition has seen some big names in the sport over the years, including one boarder — Brad Domke — who has risen to fame recently.

“I know he has been to our competition a few times. He is the world’s highestranked skim boarder,” she said.
