4-H Teen Council selling seedlings

The Monmouth County 4-H Teen Council is selling evergreen seedlings.

Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir and White Pine are the varieties of evergreen seedlings available in bundles of 25 seedlings for $22.

Deciduous seedlings available in bundles of 10 are Kousa Dogwood (tree), Silky Dogwood (shrub) and Common Lilac (shrub). Deciduous seedling bundles are $15 per bundle.

Each bundle contains a single variety of seedlings 2 or 3 years old and between 6 and 24 inches tall.

“This is the Teen Council’s primary and most popular fundraiser of the year,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Cooperative Extension Service. “The teens use money raised from this sale to offset the cost of community service projects, the annual state teen leadership conference and other worthwhile teen activities.”

Individuals may order the seedlings from the 4-H Teen Council until April 28. For an order form and additional information about each variety, email claudia.lammers@ co.monmouth.nj.us or call the 4-H office at 732-431-7260, ext. 7264.

The seedlings will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. to noon May 9 at the Monmouth County Agriculture Building, 4000 Kozloski Road, Freehold Township.

The county’s 4-H Teen Council is comprised of high school youth who meet, plan and participate in activities that develop leadership skills, address community needs and help them serve as role models and teachers for younger 4-H’ers throughout the county, according to a press release.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service.
