By Jennifer Kohlhepp, Managing Editor
CRANBURY — Cranbury residents took to the polls Tuesday to solidify the Democratic and Republican candidates for the November election.
Incumbent Democrats James M. Taylor and David W. Cook received 37 and 34 votes respectively to earn their party’s nod to run in the general election. Republicans Fran McGovern and Sean Deverin both received 43 votes to earn their party’s go-ahead to seek election in the fall. The top two vote-getters in November will earn three-year terms on the Township Committee.
Deputy Mayor Dan Mulligan is currently the only Republican on the five-member Township Committee.
Mr. Cook has been on the committee for six years.
Mayor Taylor has been a member of the governing body since 2009. He is also a member of Cranbury Volunteer Fire Co.
Mr. McGovern is listed as the second alternate member on the Zoning Board of Adjustment’s website, with a term expiration date of Dec. 31.
Mr. Deverin is also involved with the Zoning Board of Adjustment, with his term set to expire on Dec. 31, 2016.
