HOPEWELL VALLEY: Open Air Theatre to stage ‘Dogfight’

Next up at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre, “Dogfight” will be presented by the Once Upon A Time Players.
Set for one weekend of performances, “Dogfight” will be performed Friday, June 12, Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Based on the 1991 film of the same name, “Dogfight” is set in the 1960s but addresses issues still relevant today. The story takes place Nov. 21, 1963, on the eve of a young Marine’s deployment and — unbeknownst to him — the eve of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
Continuing a tradition of the Marine Corps, he and his buddies play a cruel joke on women they invite to a party. The Marines have a private wager: whoever brings the least attractive girl wins the prize money. It’s a story of the loss of innocence for the soldier and his date while also paralleling the loss of innocence of the United States.
Founded in 2006, the Once Upon A Time Players is a professional performing arts company. Led by Artistic Director Brendan Stackhouse, the Once Upon A Time Players celebrated its 10th season with this production.
Included in the cast are Alex Ward as Cpl. Eddie Birdlace (the Marine) and Hannah Quinn as Rose, an awkward, idealistic waitress. The cast also includes Bucks County actors Amy Bishop, Brian Dratch and Jonathan Zeidler as well as New York actors Ashley Burger, Christopher Herr, Courtney Kenyon, Dan Kriss, Max Meyers along with Mr. Ward and Ms. Quinn.
The production is directed by Mr. Stackhouse with musical direction by Garret Healey and scenic and costume design by Matt Iacozza.
The Once Upon A Time Players have brought productions to the Open Air Theatre during previous seasons. In 2010, it performed “Into the Woods,” and in 2011, it brought “Urinetown” to the outdoor venue.
The theatrical group will perform the musical, “Heathers,” on the Open Air stage this September.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 12 and under and $12 for seniors ages 65 and older.
Tickets can be purchased at the Open Air Theatre box office a half hour prior to the performance. Group discounts are available.
