EAST WINDSOR — The council unanimously appropriated $900,000 and authorized $570,000 in bonds to pay for various capital improvements including road repairs on June 2.
The township was recently awarded a $300,000 New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) grant to be used toward roadway improvements for Dorchester Drive, according to Mayor Janice Mironov.
“The township will be doing resurfacing and related roadway improvements to Dorchester Drive between Dutch Neck Road and the West Windsor Township border,” the mayor said. “The mayor and council had already contracted for the engineering work to prepare the plans, which are almost complete and being submitted to NJDOT as required. A notice to bidders is anticipated to go out over the next couple weeks, and work to be done late summer/early fall.”
The township is in process of performing roadway work on Hickory Corner Road between Dutch Neck Road and Dorchester Drive. A $250,000 NJDOT grant was obtained last year toward costs of this project. The roadwork began in the middle of May and continues with concrete repairs to curbs, driveway aprons and handicap ramps. Milling of the entire roadway was scheduled to commence on or about June 10 and paving is slated for the week of June 15, weather permitting. Residents in work areas should take note of any posted parking restrictions. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to an e-news alert from the township on June 5.
The township also will be resurfacing Oak Creek Road between Dutch Neck Road and Hickory Corner Road, along with a small section of Maple Stream Road. A notice to bidders is expected to go out this week, with bids returned in July, and work slated to be done over the latter part of the summer.
The township’s annual road program work has been estimated to cost $600,000, according to ordinance. The annual road program provides repairs and improvements to various roads throughout the township including but not limited to the roads listed on file in the office of the township clerk and including all work and materials, according to the ordinance.
