PRINCETON: City to use education, enforcement on tour bus issue

By Philip Sean Curran, Staff Writer
Princeton will use a mix of education and enforcement to address a problem with tour buses clogging downtown.
At Mayor Liz Lempert’s press conference, town administrator Marc Dashield said Monday that tour bus drivers and operators would get a prepared notice, either in the mail or in person, outlining locations where they can stop and where they can park. In particular, the town wants buses to park on Alexander Street when they are not loading and unloading passengers.
Police chief Nicholas K. Sutter said Monday that the education component had already started with some information already going out.
There will be a three-week grace period starting Wednesday to give everyone a chance to be educated about the rules and regulations.
“After that point, we’ll start strict enforcement of the regulations,” Mr. Dashield said.
The town plans to have a municipal parking enforcement officer assigned to devote his attention to the issue, supplemented by the other enforcement officers.
