Every Hero Has a Story! is the summer theme at the Hopewell Public Library.
The library staff has coordinated summer activities for the community and family.
Through August — Collecting school supplies to donate to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
Book Club — Meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library. Copies of each month’s book are available for checkout. All are welcome.
Cookbook Book Club — The meeting is free, but signup is required. Stop by the library to sign up for the meeting and pick up a copy of the cookbook of the month.
Cookbook Book Club meets the third Thursday of each month at the library from 7 to 8 p.m.
Storytime — Every Monday morning at 10:30, preschoolers and their adult companions are invited to gather in the upstairs children’s room for stories, songs and activities.

Knit ‘n’ Chat: third Tuesdays, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Join the group for social time while knitting. Old, young, beginners, skilled, male, female and crocheters are welcome. Bring a current project or start a new one.
This is not a knitting class; no instruction is provided although attendees are welcome to help each other. This is a drop-in group; no registration is required.
English language conversation sessions: Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Meeting leader Bambi Hegedus has tutored professionally and on a volunteer basis for 25 years. Participants at these informal sessions should have some knowledge of English. Emphasis will be on learning practical phrases and will be determined by the needs of participants.
“Pennington Comes of Age: An Exhibit of Historic Photographs:” through November.
As part of the celebration honoring the 125th anniversary of Pennington Borough, this exhibit of historic photographs by George H. Frisbie from the collection of the Hopewell Valley Historical Society will tell the story of how Pennington developed and grew between 1890 and 1915.
This monthly rotating exhibit will be grouped by themes. Photographs in August will feature photos about transportation in Pennington. These early images will be accompanied by narrative written by local historians Larry Kidder, Jack Davis and David Blackwell.
The curator is Jack Koeppel. The exhibit is sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Historical Society.
Adult Summer Reading Club: “Escape the Ordinary:” through Aug. 15.
There will be prize drawings throughout the summer. Pick up entry forms at the circulation desk and submit them through Aug. 15. There will be an end-of-the-summer grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire.
All books count, including print books, ebooks and audiobooks. Participants must have a Pennington Public Library card to be eligible for prize drawings.
Tail Waggin’ Tutor Giselle: Tuesdays, 4 to 5 p.m. Register for a 15-minute slot.
Come read to reading therapy dog and animal hero Giselle and her owner, Debra Lampert-Rudman. This is a way for readers to develop fluency while gaining confidence and is for ages 5 and up.

Bedtime math: “Summer of Numbers”: Avoid the “summer slide” in math by signing up at BedtimeMath.org to participate in a summer math program in addition to summer reading.
Visit the library to receive a constellation chart and stickers. Every night, participants will receive a fact along with a math riddle by email, website or free app. Put a star sticker on the constellation chart each time a math riddle is solved.
Bring in the completed star chart at the end of the summer to win a glow-in-the- dark Frisbee. The program is geared toward ages 5-10.

Active aging fitness will be offered Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10, 17, 24 and 31.
This program is comprised of stretching, balance, posture, flexibility and strength poses done to music. It also includes some chair yoga.
