HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Citizens can stop the PennEast pipeline

Patty Cronheim, Hopewell Township
We wish to commend the Hopewell Township officials for again demonstrating great leadership Tuesday night when the Board of Health passed a resolution declaring that the PennEast pipeline would adversely affect the health of the citizens of Hopewell Township.
This was in addition to the resolution passed by the Township Committee opposing the pipeline and barring PennEast surveyors from its lands.
We are grateful that our elected officials are listening to the concerns of residents and taking strong actions to stop the pipeline project.
At the Board of Health hearing, physicians, psychiatrists, geologists, engineers and hydrologists warned about the dangers to our safety, physical and mental health and the risks to our water supply and the air we breathe. These are risks we should not have to bear for a pipeline that New Jersey doesn’t need.
The video of the Board of Health hearing is available at http://vp.telvue.com/player?s=hopewell.
We encourage all Hopewell Valley residents to watch it so you fully understand what’s at stake.
The landowners affected by the proposed pipeline as well as all residents of Hopewell Township and neighboring communities would be impacted by these risks. This affront to our health and environment affects us all.
Remember, there is hope. Construction of the proposed PennEast pipeline is not inevitable.
As we’ve demonstrated in Hopewell Township, the voices of concerned citizens raised together can make a difference and stop PennEast.
