HOWELL — The Howell Township First Aid & Rescue Squad No. 1 will host a fundraiser on Aug. 15 in support of two local women who are battling cancer, Jennifer Kirsner and Karen Kinder.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the squad’s headquarters at 16 Kent Road.
The squad’s president, John Zicha, said all members of the community are welcome to attend the event and support two local families.
“We have about 3 acres on Kent Road, so we will have a pretty big barbeque and a live band playing,” he said.
Chris Kinder, who is a volunteer emergency medical technician with the squad and the son of Karen Kinder, said he is grateful his fellow squad members are willing to put in all the work that goes into hosting a fundraiser such as the one that is being planned.
“When John (Zicha) approached me, I could not be happier,” he said. “I just could not believe it. It really solidifies how good the people I volunteer with are.”
Admission to the fundraiser will be $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under, and free for children under 5. All proceeds will go to the two families as their loved ones continue to fight cancer, Zicha said.
Admission will cover the barbeque and live entertainment by Curbie Ciamarra. Party Entertainment by Gitsy & Friends will provide face painting.
The rescue squad is partnering with the Roughnecks Motorcycle Club for the special event and will be debuting a pink ambulance.
“The pink ambulance is to raise awareness for cancer,” Zicha said, adding that the Aug. 15 event will be held rain or shine. “We are always trying to give back and help anyone in need, and by raising awareness we are helping these two families and more.”
