HOPEWELL: Player of the Year Cook leads Pennington girls’ soccer honorees

Pennington School alumna Alana Cook, defender on the School’s girls’ soccer team and a member of the recently-graduated Class of 2015, has been named the All-American Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Formerly a boarding student at The Pennington School and hailing from Far Hills, N.J., Cook received the honor at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) Summer Symposium on Aug. 1 in Orlando, Fla.
Cook and three of her Pennington teammates were also named to the 2014-15 Scholar All-America Team by the NSCAA. Lauren Brown, Amanda Dafonte, and Allison Vickers were also named to the Scholar All-American Team for the East Region.
Brown is from Newtown, P.A. and will attend Williams College. Dafonte is from Pennington, and will attend Middlebury College. Before coming to The Pennington School, Dafonte attended Rumson Country Day School. Vickers is from Williamstown and is heading off to Colgate University. It is unprecedented for Pennington to place four players on the Scholar All-America Team in one year.
Cook is a two-time member of the NSCAA’s Youth Girls All-America Team. Cook, who will play at Stanford University this fall, also played in the Second Annual High School All-American Game last December.
The four players were all honored at the NSCAA Summer Symposium at the Lake Buena Vista Palace in Orlando, Aug. 1.
