HILLSBOROUGH: Keep township moving ahead by voting for incumbents, writer says

To the editor:
I am writing this letter in support of our deputy mayor, Greg Burchette, and Committeeman Carl Suraci for re-election this fall.
From their collective energy, to their overwhelming commitment and support to the residents of Hillsborough, I ask that you please vote for them on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Their accomplishments and active civic involvement are too long to list. What I can say is that their desire to move Hillsborough forward is so positive and contagious; a vote for Greg and Carl is a vote for us, our children, our neighbors, our businesses and for Hillsborough at large.
Hillsborough has received a number of honors in recent years, as one of the best and safest communities in New Jersey and the country. Just recently Hillsborough was named in Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live” in 2015. Additionally, the Hillsborough Township School District is consistently ranked on Niche’s Best Public School Districts list in New Jersey. In part, we have our local officials to thank for managing our community properly.
Those local officials have included Mr. Burchette and Mr. Suraci. They have managed to keep Hillsborough healthy and prosperous by prudent and responsible policies they have pursued. Public investment has been placed in valued resources and our businesses are well cared for and supported.
An example of that is the innovative Shop Hillsborough program, which encourages Hillsborough residents to shop locally. The “Shop Hillsborough” card has further boosted local business sales and is of zero cost to Hillsborough taxpayers. The plan has been funded by the participating businesses in anticipation of enjoying increased business from the residents. This visionary approach has put Hillsborough at the forefront of economic planning and business development in our region.
Most importantly for taxpayers, under the leadership of Mr. Burchette and Mr. Suraci, the township’s finances are sound and well managed. This demonstrates a fiscal prudence that keeps the hard-earned money of our taxpayers in their pockets. What our township officials have done is avoid spending wastefully and frivolously. Instead they have cut back the size of local government so that its budget is less than that of 2008, and its public employee roll is smaller than it was in 2002, when it reached its maximum under the Democrats.
Let us continue Hillsborough’s progress and re-elect our dedicated deputy mayor, Greg Burchette and Township Committeeman Carl Suraci. The demand for experienced, knowledgeable and, most of all, caring members for local leadership could not be greater. Greg and Carl meet and exceed all of the criteria.
Whether it is setting high standards for district employee performance and student achievement, developing a visionary approach to keeping our local businesses successful, or greatly improving the budgeting process, Greg and Carl’s prior tenure in the township has helped set the foundation for significant progress.
