HILLSBOROUGH: Susan Gulliford says it’s time for independent leadership voice

To the editor:
I have a simple and straightforward message for Hillsborough’s voters: I am Susan Gulliford. I have lived and worked in Hillsborough for over 30 years. I am running for Township Committee as an unaffiliated, independent candidate and I would appreciate your vote.
With so many voters feeling unrepresented and over 50 percent of Hillsborough voters unaffiliated with any political party, isn’t it time for those voters to be represented on our Township Committee? Wouldn’t it be nice to have an independent voice on the Committee who is beholden to only the voters?
This is an election where your vote can truly make a difference.
I have attended hundreds of township meetings, asked hundreds of questions and spent countless hours poring through files in the municipal building to research issues of importance to the people of Hillsborough for more than a decade. I have worked for Hillsborough, written about Hillsborough, photographed Hillsborough, and served in appointed positions.
My degrees in criminal justice, paralegal studies and English have enhanced my involvement at Board of Adjustment, Planning Board and Township Committee meetings. I made it a point to participate at other township boards and commissions meetings including open space, environmental, historic, and parks and recreation.
In 2013, I stepped up to oppose the Township Committee’s attempt to divert our open space funds away from the purchase or preservation of land by starting a successful campaign to educate the voters on this crucial matter. Over the years I have also addressed the Somerset County Freeholders on such Hillsborough concerns as, most recently, our library and the proposed off-track wagering facility.
The next step is my candidacy for public office and now I need your support. I have spoken to many residents by going door to door and they are enthusiastic about my campaign and believe my background, experience and independence will serve this town well. I would like to hear from you as well, so please feel free to contact me at sgulliford2015@comcast.net or visit my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Susan-Gulliford-An-Independent-Gulliford — an Independent Voice.“ You may be assured that I have always lived up to those words, and will continue to do so.
Please vote for me on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. Thank you very much!
