HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Fire Safety Open House to be held

See firetrucks, try operating a hose, have something from a food truck and learn information about safety at Hopewell’s Fire Safety Open House.
The event, sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Uniformed Firefighters Association and Hopewell Township Fire District, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Hopewell Township municipal building at 201 Washington Crossing Road in Pennington.
The township’s career firefighters and EMTs and volunteers from Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit, Pennington Fire Company, Pennington First Aid Squad and Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad will take part.
Highlights of the day include the children’s Fire Academy, kids interactive fire hose demonstration, the Fire Safety House and EMS demonstrations. Child identification kits and free blood pressure checks will be available, and DJ Bobby Jones will provide music. A bicycle donated by Hart’s Cyclery will be given away.
Township firefighters and EMTS will help spread the message of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme, “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep,” which reminds everyone every bedroom needs a lifesaving smoke alarm.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of all U.S. home fire deaths occur between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when people most likely are sleeping. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a fire in half. Have the right number and proper placement of these inexpensive, lifesaving devices.
Any questions? Ask at the open house or call the local fire department any time.
