There are many benefits to dental implants

By Dr. Kosmas Kasimatis

Coping with missing teeth is not easy, which is why so many people are opting for dental implants to replace them. The reason for this is quite obvious: dental implants last a long time, they replace missing teeth, and people can chew better; overall, people can function better. People smile with confidence and they can eat what they like, digest their food better, and they can sing and laugh without embarrassment. Dental implants replace the natural tooth root along with the crown. Also, they help preserve the bone in the jaw while giving excellent aesthetic results.

Dental implants have been around for a long time, but many clinicians have not been using them regularly; this means that they may not be current with the most advanced systems, technologies and techniques. I have placed and restored thousands of implants using 3D CBCT Cone Bean CT scan technology. I have advanced training in most implant systems and am a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. It is important to use 3-D imaging to acquire accurate information about the site of treatment. This has opened new frontiers in the dental field, not only in treating missing teeth with dental implants, but also treating sleep disorders,TMG conditions, and other painful head and neck disorders.

There are many advantages in choosing dental implants. One of the most common advantages is to replace one or more teeth; another is to stabilize dentures. Many people with lower dentures suffer because they can’t stabilize them. Dental implants can stabilize the dentures and make them fixed in the lower jaw. Other advantages of dental implants are that they can maintain the bone and preserve it, replace missing teeth permanently, and enhance the smile and facial esthetics. Dental implants may seem more expensive when compared to alternative solutions, but could prove to be much more cost-effective in the long run. There is a great and growing demand for dental implants. 3-D technology has made their success much more predictable and their outcome superb.
