HILLSBOROUGH: Brother, sister win awards for roses

Siblings Adam and Rhea Bolar won National Queens — the highest trophy at a national show — on Sept. 12 at the American Rose Society’s fall National Rose Show in Syracuse, N.Y.
There are four classes of roses in which a queen is awarded — hybrid tea rose, floribunda rose, miniature rose and miniflora rose.
Adam, 10, and a 5th-grader at Auten Road Intermediate School, won the National Miniature Queen and is the youngest exhibitor in the nation ever to win. His sister, Rhea, a junior at Hillsborough High School, won Floribunda Queen and a National Challenge trophy, the Fred Edmunds Sr. Memorial Youth Award national trophy.
The children grow exhibition roses with their parents, Rafiq and Suni, and each have their own rose beds. The parents won the Miniature National Queen in 2013.
