The Monmouth County Audubon Society will host an autumn bird walk at 10 a.m. Oct. 18. Participants should meet in the parking lot at the closed Sandy Hook visitor center between lots D and E on Hartshorne Drive.
The peninsula of Sandy Hook in northern Monmouth County attracts migrating raptors, shorebirds and songbirds due to the abundance of food and areas of suitable habitat, according to a press release.
The trip will be led by members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society who are familiar with Sandy Hook and its birds and is open to members and nonmembers of the Monmouth County Audubon Society.
Participation is free and advance registration is not required. Participants should bring binoculars and dress appropriately for the weather. Pets are not permitted.
